THE MOST PARTICIPANTS SIMULTANEOUSLY DRINKING WATER FOR AN ADVOCACY |
The Year for the Maranao’s will be this 2012, as the organizers of this one-of-a-kind event see it. Although everything has not been formally laid on the table, various organizations both in Iligan and Marawi, mainly Lanao province have shown their interest in having this record for the Maranao’s. The record attempt would be “THE MOST PARTICIPANTS SIMULTANEOUSLY DRINKING WATER FOR AN ADVOCACY.” This gathering aims to promote awareness on the present situation in LAKE LANAO. Lake Lanao, the largest freshwater lake in the Philippines and one of the 15 ancient lakes in the world is also the source of electricity in almost 70% used in Mindanao is now ailing due to environmental degradation. Also, the absence of having Theme Parks in the shoreline of Lake Lanao area was observed. Theme parks are very important in the presentation of preserving a natural habitat just like the La Mesa Eco Park for the preservation of the La Mesa Water Shed; in Laguna Lake, there was a proposal for building the longest lakeshore park in the world by turning the 90,000 hectare Laguna Lake into a giant ring dike; in People’s Park at Tagaytay overlooking the beautiful scene of the Taal lake and some parks and restaurants that are built around the shoreline of the lake to appreciate and preserve these kinds of environment. |

By Dr. Ali B. Panda This was delivered during the international Conference on Islamic Thought After postmodernism conducted by the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization, International Islamic University-Malaysia last October 18-20,2011, Kualalumpur, Malaysia I. Introduction Islamic education is the process and system of learning based on tauheed (oneness of Allah). This process operates and has been developed with the emergence of postmodernism in the Philippine secular state. The Muslim Filipino citizens, in particular, have to observe the Philippine laws and guidelines on education which is secular in nature and has been considered as an offshoot of Western culture that the modern viewpoint of the world has arisen. They are given the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) with some degree of “Islamic education.” The enactment of laws and orders intended for the improvement of their education manifests the “unsecularization” in Philippine educational system for the Muslim Filipinos. |

Why the AFP Stumbled Twice on the Same Stone? |

By Hadji Mouztafah “MASAK” Mackatimbul A better understanding of the firefight on October 18, 2011 at Sitio Bakisong, Cambug Village in Al-Barka, Basilan that resulted to 24 deaths-- 19 government soldiers and 5 MILF fighters requires a deeper understanding of the circumstances surrounding the incident and a scrutiny of similar tragedy that took place five years ago. Whatever the judgment of the time the recent showdown could mean misunderstanding, misencounter, misadventure, miscoordination, legitimate operation, covert undertaking, test mission, scuba diving training or any other imaginable agenda under the sun. Moreover, the point was that there was a ceasefire violation as both camps claimed. Who are the violators, intruders and defenders? Whether the MILF forces or the AFP soldiers are the violators is the big question. The Joint Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities should formally intervene and officially investigate. The President has already conducted its own investigation, already spoken with the media and made appropriate actions as heads had already rolled in the AFP regional echelon and declared “all-out-justice” against perceived killing perpetrators.
