24,093 OFWs cast ballots PDF Print E-mail

By Rodolfo C. Estimo Jr., Arab News

RIYADH: Over 24,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Kingdom cast their ballots for the Fillipino elections, which drew to a close at 2 p.m. on Monday. The deadline for votes was extended by one hour following instructions from Manila where voting was also extended by an hour.

Filipino Ambassador Antonio P. Villamor thanked all who supported the Philippines Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV), including employers who provided transportation for their employees to visit polling stations.

Altogether 24,093 OFWs — or 22.37 percent of the 111,952 registered voters in the Kingdom — cast their ballots.
Vice Consul Roussel Reyes, in charge of the OAV at the Philippine Embassy, said a total of 11,827 OFWs — or 22.37 percent of Riyadh ’s 52,869 registered voters — participated in the elections. He added that the voter turnout was much larger than in 2007 when only around eight percent of voters exercised their democratic rights.

In Jeddah, Consul Leo Tito L. Ausan Jr. said 7,292 OFWs — or 19.7 percent of the city’s 37,083 registered voters — voted. Despite the low turnout, officials say the ballot was a success. It has been honest, credible, fair and very peaceful. “Considering the problems which the OFWs or overseas absentee voters faced, the number of registered OFWs who voted is satisfactory,” said Ausan.

Moro Youth Group Hit ERAP's Ad PDF Print E-mail

By BMYM

The Bangsamoro Youth Movement held a press conference entitled :THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES (Erap Estrada’s biggest lie)at Cagayan De Oro Press Club office,    Cagayan De oro City to Protest the Political Ad made by Presidential candidate and Former president Joseph ejercito Estrada about his Claims of  past Accomplishments, among others the alleged defeat of MILF and “ nagkaroon ng kapayapaan sa Mindanao” during his incumbency.

Press Statement

Mr. Joseph ‘Erap’ Ejercito Estrada, who is running for president in the May 10 national elections, has come out with a political ad on television claiming as his past accomplishment, among others, the alleged defeat of the MILF during his incumbency as president of the Philippine Republic in 2000. Obviously, this is for the purpose of gaining political mileage.

There is no denying the fact that Estrada had declared and unleashed a vicious all-out war campaign against the MILF and the Bangsamoro people in March 2001 vowing to pulverize the Bangsamoro into non-existence. In his own words: “Pupulbusin ko kayo!”

However, his claim to have defeated the MILF is an outright spin - a prevarication and a fantasy - that only exists in the imagination of the senescent Mr. Estrada which has no basis in truth and in fact.

The road to journalism is not carpeted with red rug stuff: PDF Print E-mail

By: Abdul Hannan Faisal Tago  (From his memory “Climbing The Ladder of Success”) Series (7)

Final exam at Al Azhar University was organized once in a year during our time.  As far as results are concerned, 28-30 percent students used to pass in the exam every year including Egyptians at the mass communication department, which is still affiliated with the faculty of Arabic literature.

Studying in Egypt is also a completely different experience from that in Saudi Arabia or anywhere else. In the Kingdom’s case, they provide annual air ticket to the overseas student’s home country, while Egypt provides only one-way ticket after finishing the college degree.

Therefore, the only hope of returning home is to complete the course. In my case, I had at least seven years to finish my college since I started my second-year high school there.

Muslim group: Don’t vote drunkards, womanizers PDF Print E-mail

By EDD K. USMAN, Manila Bulletin

COTABATO CITY – The Guardian of the Moros (GM), a new group composed of Muslim professionals in Central Mindanao, has issued a guideline for the May 10 local and national elections, asking the voters to shun electing womanizers, drunkards, gamblers, and anti-people candidates.

The Manila Bulletin, through Luwaran.net, learned that the guidelines were formulated by the youth for Bangsamoro Genuine Empowerment (YBGE), headed by Arsad Solaiman.

YBGE was described as a “militant Moro youth organization.”

On the other hand, the second endorsement by GM was signed by a certain Professor Abdullah of the University of Southern Mindanao in Kabacan, North Cotabato.

SUPPLICATIONS (Compiled from the Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad's Traditions) PDF Print E-mail

Compiled by This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

I ask Allah, the Most High, the All-Powerful, to make all our deeds purely dedicated to Him. We ask Him, the Most Exalted, to guide us to whatever pleases Him and to allow nothing to distract us from remembering Him. He is the Best Hearer and the Best Answerer.

Allah said: "Should My servants ask you about Me, I am indeed Close to them: I answer the prayer of whoever calls on Me. So let them also, with willingness, respond to Me and believe in Me; that they may be rightly guided." [Qur'an-2:186]

"Hassan Al-Basri, may Allah bless his soul, used to begin his talks and sermons by saying: (alhamdulillaahe, allaahomma rabbanaa lakalhamdu bemaa khalaqtanaa warazaqtanaa, wahadaytanaa wa'allamtanaa, wa-angkadhtanaa, wafarrajta 'annaa. Lakalhamdu bel-eemaan, walakalhamdu bel-ahlee walmaali walmu'aafaate. Kabbat-ta adow-wanaa. Wabasat-ta rizqanaa, wa'azharta om-matanaa, wajama'ta forqatanaa, wa ahsanta mo'aafaatanaa, waming kolle maa sa-alnaaka rabbanaa a'taytanaa. Falakalhamdu 'alaa dhaalika hamdang kaseeran. Lakalhamdu bekolle ni'maten an'amta behaa 'alaynaa fee qadeemen aw hadeesen, aw serren aw 'alaaniyaten, aw khaas-saten aw aam-maten, aw hay-yen aw may-yeten, aw shaaheden aw ghaa-eben.
