Philippines’ Media often see the dark side of Mindanao picture only: |

By Abdul Hannan Faisal Tago (From his memory “Climbing The Ladder of Success”) Series (6) According to Alexander’s report, based on data released by “Growth with Equity in Mindanao”, a non-governmental organization working for accelerated economic growth in Mindanao and ensuring that the benefits of growth are widely distributed among its people, many development activities are happening in Mindanao. Yet, only the insurgency problem gets highlighted by the media, underlining its biased coverage of the realities on the ground in our province. Instead of reporting on Mindanao with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Muslims as a people with their own hopes and aspirations, the mass media, irrespective of its political or religious allegiance, incites those on the other side of the fence to defend or attack. Various historical accounts delve into the roots underlying the distinctive ethos of Muslims in the Philippines with their own cultural and political diversity. This is the Bangsamoro’s basis for asserting their right to self-determination. They have expressed this right in various ways, from armed struggles to participation in partisan politics to gain influence in national policy and decision-making. |

Presidential poll fray shows… |

By Abdul Hannan Faisal Tago RIYADH – As in democratic countries, the Philippines elections, too, create a rift among the people along the political divide, which also spills over into the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) ranks.
With the start of absentee voting process outside the country last Saturday, debates among the supporters of the presidential candidates on various social networking websites have triggered a heated debate, with some betraying their racial prejudice, while others extend blind support to their candidates. In Facebook, many supporters simply cut and paste what a candidate says against his rival aspirant, including harsh comments and wild accusations by politicians that also find echo in the Philippine media. By doing so, some of those supporters have blindly cast in their lot with politicians who are apparently interested in their own political agenda back home. |

(1) AS-SHIRK – Pagtatambal sa Allah. Sinabi ng Allah (swt): "Katotohanan ay hindi patatawarin ng Allah ang sinumang magtatambal ng ibang diyos sa Kanya; subalit pinapatawad Niya, maliban dito, ang ibang kasalanan ng sinumang Kanyang naisin" "Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with HIM, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills."[Annisaa:116] Sinabi pa ng Allah (swt): "Sinumang magtambal ng ibang diyos sa Allah, ipinagbabawal ng Allah sa kanya ang paraiso, at ang apoy ang kanyang magiging tirahan. At sa mga masasama, walang tulong sa kanila" "Indeed he who associates others with Allah – Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the worongdoers any helpers." |

(1) Knowledge, as opposed to ignorance. If a person declares the Oneness of Allah without knowing what it means, it follows that such a person is ignorant of what the declaration entails. (2) Certainty, as opposed to doubt. There are people who utter declaration while doubting the meanings inherent therein. (3) Complete sincerity and devotion, as opposed to partial or divided dedication. If a person fails to devote all his actions wholeheartedly to Allah, it follows that he is associating something else with Him, which runs counter to pure dedication. |

Honesty is the best policy in life |

By Saleh Ampaso Bucay (14-Apr-2010)
There is no religion, I know, that doesn’t support the virtue of truthfulness as everyone believes that honesty is always the best policy in life. Whether we hide or reveal what is in our breasts, God knows it, and He knows what is in the heavens and on earth. Allah says in the Holy Qur’an… “Say: "Whether ye hide what is in your hearts or reveal it, Allah knows it all: He knows what is in the heavens, and what is on earth. And Allah has power over all things”. Al-Imran V.29 Lying has become a part of our lives as well as the business. There is no businessman will tell you the true original prices of his commodities because if he does, he will earn less which is definitely against his business policies and objectives. Politicians on the other hand spend millions of money in order to win the elections with lies as their main capital. Being politicians, they will be surprised of course, when some people believed what they have said. |

By Abdul Hannan Faisal Tago (From his memory “Climbing The Ladder of Success”) Series (5) My long-term goal, however, was to enter the field of mass communications. The reason was that there was not a single Bangsamoro who had studied journalism abroad. The reason probably was that either they could not afford it or maybe it was due to the lack of opportunity in our province.
As such, I aspired to become one of few Moro journalists graduated from Middle East esteem university. One of the triggers that motivated to become a journalist was the political situation in the Philippines where Muslims were at Manila’s mercy for getting media coverage.
In fact, an incident that happened in the case of a group of Ulama led by late Sheikh Ahmad Bashir, during a visit to the Malacanang Palace at the time of Marcos in 1984 marked a turning point in my life. It prompted me to think seriously of taking up journalism as a career, so that I could articulate the Muslim point of view through the press.

(From his memory “Climbing The Ladder of Success”) Series (4) MUSLIMS in the Philippines owe a great deal to the initiative of late Senator Dr. Ahmad Domocao Alonto, one of the founding members of the Makkah-based Muslim World League for the launch of the scholarship scheme. The groundwork for this project was laid at his meeting with the late Egyptian President, Gamal Abdel Nasser, in Bandung, Indonesia at the Bandung Conference for Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in 1955, according to Alaoddin Datudacula Lucman, a Shariah graduate from Al-Azhar University. He said that the historic meeting had awakened the Muslim world to the plight of the Muslims in the Philippines. Even the Egyptians were surprised to learn that there were Muslims in the Philippines, dubbed the only Christian nation in Asia. |
